But the church had another surprise in store for them this Sunday night.
Around 5:00 p.m., we headed out the door to go to church. However, we did not get underway as quickly as we expected. We opened the car door, and what should we find but fire ants all over the front! They were on our seats, on the edges of the car doors, between our seats, on the dash board, just everywhere up front though I didn’t see any on the floor board on my side of the car. So, Christy went back in and got the bug spray. We used the “natural” spray that we spray right on us so that the car would not smell too bad. After all, we had to breathe the stuff in all the way to church. Thankfully it is only toxic to bugs, not humans.
Finally the population of fire ants had pretty much dwindled away and we were ready to head out. As I was getting in the car, I happened to think, “When we get to church, we are going to smell like bug spray.” Soooo, Christy went back into the house and found some old towels which we used to cover the seats. There were still a few ants straggling around, and I did get a few bites but I am not allergic to them. Thankfully Christy did not get any bites because she is quite allergic to them. At church we asked a friend if we smell like bug spray, and she said “No,” so the towels must have worked pretty well.
