When I woke up around 3:45 last night (actually this morning), it fell rather chilly in the house. When I got up the next time (around 5:30), I looked at the thermometer - 63 degrees! Time to turn the heaters on.
Around 6:50 Christy took a peek at the thermometer on the front porch - 43 degrees in the full sun. My heart sank. The sun had already been shining on the thermometer for a little while, so I knew it was not really 43 degrees. I looked out the window and saw what I expected to see. Christy's car was all shiny and sparkly. So was the grass. Yes, it was pretty. But the poor tomato plants.
Well, frost is always good for pictures. Since the sun was full on the plants, it was harder to get clear pictures; but I got a few. Then I headed out back. Frost out there too. What about the tomato plants. They were close to the house, and it was not that cold. Maybe they were spared. No. Almost every leaf had frost on it. But it was very light frost up close to the house. Now that the frost has melted, the plants look damaged but look like they will survive. It may be even chillier tonight, so I'll have to be sure to cover them.
Here are a couple of pictures of the frosty plants.
