During the times I relax in the afternoon, I’ve been learning something new – crochet. I’ve tried a few projects before – some small bags and a couple of afghans. The afghans were all plain double crochet, so I just went back and forth until it was long enough, or around in a square until it was big enough. However, I tend to give up before those are done. Smaller projects are more my thing.
So first I learned how to make a heart. Here are the three I’ve made so far (from patterns at favecrafts.com). The first heart pictured here is one larger heart made of yarn and a smaller heart in the center crocheted from narrow ribbon. These were sewed together to make one heart. The pink heart was made with light pink, slightly sparkly yarn for the inside and bordered by a little bit darker light-pink yarn. The red and pink heart was made entirely of ribbon. It took about 25 yards of ribbon for the red and pink heart.
Another fun, short project to crochet is hats. My friend, Allison, is teaching me how to make one kind of hat. I’ve not had too much success doing that one on my own. But later she’ll help me fix it up. The other hats I’ve made use a simple pattern – all half double crochet and single crochet, except for a few slip stitches (this pattern is also at favecrafts.com). It takes about 2 ½ to 3 hours to finish one. Here are a few pictures.
Speaking of Allison, please be in prayer for her. She just had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and learned that she might have a condition called dystonia as well as the Ehlers Danlos Syndrome that she currently struggles with. Pray that God will encourage her and meet her needs, and that He will heal her if that is His will. Please pray for God to give her grace and strength for every day.
And, speaking of doctor’s appointments, I have a doctor’s appointment with a neurologist on Tuesday the 14th, at 10:00 a.m. The reason given for the referral is “bilateral foot pain and numbness” (neuropathy), but there is a lot more going on than that. Please pray that I will be able to think clearly and be able to explain clearly to the doctor what is going on. Pray that the doctor will have wisdom and be thorough and know just what to do. Thank you so much.
Also, please be in prayer for my cousin’s wife, Linda. Her cancer continues to spread, and doctors are trying a “third tier” chemo for her. The cancer in her lungs is now growing to the point that she is having some shortness of breath. Here is an excerpt of a recent entry on her CaringBridge site, “Linda and I were at Duke for her scheduled 3 month CT scan and the news was not good. Linda has numerous lesions on her lung that were seen on the CT scan and lymph nodes in her abdomen were further enlarged, An immediate change in chemo is determined to be the next course of action, Linda will begin this new treatment tomorrow at AMC where she has been getting her chemo which is close to our home. This will be the third change in the chemo medications and is considered the "third tier" and only considered when other chemo has not been effective. No previously known lesions showed shrinking and in fact had grown larger, Linda has been experiencing some shortness of breath lately and this is likely the cause.”
You can visit her site to read more. Be sure to leave a note in her guestbook to let her know you are praying. Thanks so much.
