Last night was 42 degrees, cooler than it has been for a while. However, it seemed to stay fairly warm in the house. So thankful that the Lord gave me the idea to cover the inside of the back screen door with a plastic shower curtain. We have already covered each window with one (except for the window over the kitchen sink). A LOT of cold air comes in around the back door, so we needed to do something. The difficult part was that the screen door is a pop-up door and is on the inside rather than the outside. The clear plastic shower curtain seemed to work well though. I just put hooks on either side of the doorway and then hung the curtain on the hooks by the pre-made holes where the rings were supposed to go. :-) The curtain lets in the light but keeps out the cold. |
For heating we no longer use the central heat. It would run all the time and did not keep the place very warm. It also dried out the air and our sinuses. The Lord has provided us with three small heaters that are made to heat up to 400 square feet each. They do not save a lot of electricity, but they work much better. Also, they do not dry out the air. We have had fewer respiratory problems, and our hands do not dry out and crack. They also heat evenly and keep furniture and floors relatively warm as well. We are thankful for this blessing. |
