Sometimes I pray for things and it seems like the Lord does not provide them. I am sure they are needs, so I bring them again and lay them at my Father’s throne. He gently reminds me, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33) That is the key to answered prayer and the provision of material needs.
What things will God add to me if I seek Him first? Verses 28 – 32 of Matthew chapter 6 explain that “these things” are the material things necessary for life. These include food, something to drink, and clothes to wear. This principle is mentioned a number of times in the Old Testament as well. Here are a few examples.
“9O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. 10The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.” (Psalm 34:9,10)
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.” (Psalm 37:3)
“18The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. 19They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.” (Psalm 37:18,19)
