How did everyone do on Thankfulness Challenge 3? It is such an encouragement to read the verses and consider what our God is really like. He is our shield! And this truth provides so much comfort. I admit that I have really been struggling with the thankfulness part though. How I still need God’s help with it!
Let’s look at what goes in the blanks (answers are underlined and in bold):
1. “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11)
The Lord is my sun, a light to show my way and warmth and comfort for me.
The Lord is my shield. He will protect me.
Therefore the Lord will give me grace and glory.
If I walk uprightly, what good thing will the Lord withhold from me? None .
Therefore if He has not given me something, I must consider that perhaps it is not good for to have it at this time.
2. “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” (Psalm 91:4)
The Lord is my shield. He provides a hiding place (or alternately “safe haven” ) for me under His wings.
What does He give me to be my shield and buckler? His truth .
3. “The word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” (Genesis 15:1)
“…Who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency!...” (Deuteronomy 33:29)
I am saved by the Lord, therefore He is the shield of my help . He is the sword of my excellency. He will protect me.
4. “But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.” (Psalm 3:3)
The Lord is my shield. Therefore He is my glory .
When I become discouraged He will lift up my head .
5. “For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” (Psalm 5:12)
God blesses the righteous. He looks on them with favor, that is, with pleasure and delight. Therefore, the Lord will take pleasure in me and delight in protecting me and being my shield.
6. (Sorry, this one was mis-numbered in the last post.) “Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.” (Psalm 119:114)
“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” (Proverbs 30:5)
The Lord is my shield. This gives me a hiding place . I have this sure hope because of His word and I can put my trust in Him.
“Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.” (Psalm 115:11)
And thus ends our review of Thankfulness Challenge 3. I hope it was a blessing.
See you all tomorrow, Lord willing, for Thankfulness Challenge 4.
