It took a while, but Christy was finally able to finish this glow-in-the-dark puzzle. It is a bits-and-pieces puzzle so took quite a bit longer than a puzzle with regular interlocking pieces. When asked if she would do it again, "Probably. It wasn't too bad." :-)

Spring fever is attacking, and it is time to get out and take care of the weeds and get the garden in good shape. This morning I weeded a good portion of the raised bed garden. Got all the weeds out of this section, except for the grass. The grass has deep, thick roots; and somebody a little stronger will have to do that part. Right now there are some potatoes and a few kale plants growing in this section of the garden. Not sure what else we will plant. Perhaps some more greens? Later in the year there will probably be watermelons. Last year the bugs and animals got some of the watermelons before we did, and we just left them in the garden. The sugarbabies have lots of seeds. Last year they reseeded them selves quite well, so we expect the same this year. There is still some hay on the garden from last year, but a lot of that is already broken down and become part of the soil. We'll probably get some mulch to help keep the moisture in as the ground is getting dry already. There are lots of earthworms, which is a good thing; it means the soil is healthy. In another area is a small patch where peas and onions are growing. In the middle of that patch is some other kind of plants. If I am not mistaken, they look like carrots. Well, I did plant some carrot seeds a couple of years ago. Guess it's about time for them to germinate. :-) I hope that, if you have a garden, it does well, and that you enjoy the good green herb of the field. And I hope that your soul prospers as well as your garden. God bless! "1Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. 2My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: 3Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." (Deuteronomy 32:1-4) Spring has arrived and seems to be here to stay. The carpenter bees are out (time to duck now :-) ), and many of the trees are getting their leaves. It has been in the 70s or low 80s with high humidity and not much breeze. The forecast does call for a chance of thunderstorms or rain showers most every day. Rain would be nice as it is starting to get rather dry. It has been humid, but the rain has mostly consisted of some sprinkles, though some surrounding areas got a bit more rain. _ The Lord has been allowing me to have some fun crocheting. I’ve done a few hats and a number of mini hats. Also did a bunch of hearts as well as some flowers. I think I figured out how to do a tiny mouse. We want to try making little flowers and critters and gluing a magnet on the back. It will be fun to see how they turn out. On Tuesday Christy took me to my chiropractor appointments, and I finally got my re-evaluation. He still wants me to come every two weeks for maintenance right now and do another re-evaluation in three months. We won’t go back until April though, so it will be about three weeks this time. Then I went to the other chiropractor, the one who works on my foot; and he was pleased with my improvement. This time he did adjustments and stretches on both feet and legs. Surprisingly, they hurt a lot more on the left leg than on my right leg. He said my calf muscles on the left leg were really tight. After the chiropractor appointment we went to Sears where Christy had her eyes checked and ordered some new glasses. Then we went to Chik-Fil-A and got a lemonade. At 3:00, Christy took me up to the third floor. There was a surprise awaiting me there – Lunar Mini Golf. The whole area was lighted with black lights, and everything glowed in the dark, even our teeth! This was really funny because our skin was dark, but our teeth glowed. My socks also glowed in the dark and the silvery stripes on my shoes did as well. On the wall were beautiful chalk drawings – a moon landing; the Dark Nebula; squid; sea turtles; a dolphin doing a graceful dive, silhouetted in front of a rising moon and the silvery ripples of the sea; and others. It was all very beautiful. There were 2 courses. We got to play both of them and then play our favorite one a second time. At the end, we got to try to shoot our ball into the “win” hole to see if we could get a free pass to come back. Neither of us got a free pass, but we would like to go back some time anyway. (Sorry, we did not have a camera with us so didn’t get any pictures.) Wednesday was super busy after the long day Tuesday. Surprisingly I had lots of energy. That was good because lots needed to be done. On Thursday, though, the energy was gone. It seems I overdid it a bit. Christy had most of the day off, but we didn’t do much – made flowers and mini hats and put together the puzzle and things like that. Even though I was feeling really weak on Thursday, the Lord did give me enough energy to work in the garden for about 15 to 20 minutes. Got about half of one section weeded. We haven’t planted anything yet, but onions and peas are coming up there (from last year). The onions reproduce by themselves, and the peas are apparently from seeds that never germinated in the fall. Looks like some chamomile coming up in that section as well. In the raised bed section, the kale is growing. That area needs to be weeded and aerated so that things will grow well. There are a couple of “trees” coming up in that section. I’m not sure what they are. That is where I threw the insides of a papaya last year, but the “trees” survived the winter so they are probably not papaya trees. Maybe they will grow and just not be able to produce. Don’t know. Guess we’ll find out. On Friday the 16th, we had a wind storm. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning, but we mostly just got strong winds. The winds were so strong that I had to shut the dining room window because little bits of the Bradford pear blossoms were blowing right through the screen. My aunt had a neat thing on her website. Did you know a broom will stand up on its own? Well, it will. One theory was that it could only do that around the time of the spring equinox or one of the other seasonal equinoxes, but that is not true. It can be done any time. We tried it with both our brooms, and it works just fine. Christy did it at work, but her co-worker said it was “spooky.” According to one website, standing a broom up this way is impossible. However, we know it is not, because we did it with three different brooms. And you don’t have to spread the bristles apart. Simply stand it up. There is no “trick” to it, and it isn’t magic. One site said you need a broom with stiff bristles for this to work, but that doesn’t seem to be the case either. It worked with both our corn broom and the one with nylon bristles. One possibility for the explanation of this phenomenon is that it has something to do with the earth’s gravitational pull. Another site says to use a solid, not so beat up broom, but our nylon broom is bent and rather “beat up” looking, and our corn broom has lost a lot of its bristles. So that doesn’t seem to be the case either. I couldn’t find a scientific explanation for it, but there surely must be one. Anyway, it was fun! The last day of the week, began with a beautiful sunrise. Health Update So far I haven’t heard anything back about scheduling an MRI. I did call and found out it could be another 1 to 3 weeks before I even hear anything. So please continue in prayer about that. On Thursday the 15th, my extra energy ran out. Guess I just got plain tired out. I tried weeding in the garden, but only lasted about 15 to 20 minutes. After that I felt very weak, so weak it was hard to even stand up. So I sat down for a while. I did manage to do a little cooking in the afternoon but was very weak all day. I thought I was in for a really bad flare up but felt much better on Friday. I was just over-tired. My general health seems to be doing OK, and I am thankful for that. There has been a bit of trouble with my toenails, which is probably because of wearing shoes all the time and having sweaty feet. My feet have not been numb as often, but they hurt a lot and have been swelling quite a bit. Also, I’ve developed a bit of a rash. It is like my other symptoms – disappears completely and then returns during a flare up. It is somewhat blotchy, and the blotches are hard and the area under the rash swells a little. Thankfully it does not itch or hurt. So far it has only been on my forearm and on my face. My face tends to be red sometimes anyway, but this can be distinguished because my cheeks get puffy under it. (picture below) We ordered some new supplements specifically for neurological problems. I’ve just tried one so far, and it seems to be helping but is leaving me kind of “spacey.” Hopefully that side effect will diminish after a while. The interesting thing is that, since taking them, I do not seem to fall asleep for no reason when I sit down. It has been a struggle to stay awake when sitting down for more than a few minutes at a time. This can be a little problem during church. I don’t know if the “falling asleep” problem is related to my other problems, but my Grandpa had that problem as does one of my uncles. That is about it for the health update. I’ve been thankful for some days with a little more energy. Sunday, February 19th It snowed. It came down pretty good for a while, but at 36 degrees it didn’t stick. I love to watch snow coming down. Our pastor dismissed church early, but there ended up being no accumulation. February 22nd was beautiful – a sunny morning with fog. Got several pictures of that. February 23rd dawned a cheery morning. The birds were singing. One bird sounded like he was saying “Peter, Peter, Peter, Peter.” The train whistle could be heard in the distance, and the hum of the heater and the ticking of the clocks added to the peacefulness of the morning. Other birds could be heard in the south, and also the cars as they went by on the road. Was able to get caught up most of the way with correspondence. Still need to write to a few people. Made some bread, which came out really delicious. Then made mung bean melt to go on the bread. Mung beans can be purchased at an Asian Market. They are really good and very healthy. February 24th dawned a bright, clear morning. The sun was just about to peek over the eastern horizon when I looked out the kitchen window. It was a busy day, but the Lord helped in getting a lot done. I got a card ready to go to some friends. Also worked on the shopping list and budget for next week, updated our blog, updated Mom and Dad's blog, took a shower and washed hair, and cleaned the overhead fan. It had lots of dust and spider webs on it, and we were trying to think of a good way to clean it. Finally, the Lord gave me an idea. I plugged in the vacuum cleaner and put all the hose attachments together. In one hand, I held a duster on one side of the fan blade. In the other hand, I held the vacuum hose and vacuumed the dust off the side and bottom of the fan blade. That was done for each blade. Then I slightly moistened a duster and dusted the spider webs and dust off the light fixtures, bulbs, and other non-moving parts. It looks a lot better. To keep from messing up the computer and other things on the coffee table, a sheet was draped over it. Of course the sheet went in the wash after the cleaning job was done. :-) The Lord also gave me time for some fun. Got to stand out on the porch and take photos of the storm. After that it was fun to go through and edit them all. It was even more fun because there was nothing else pressing left to do that day. That made doing the photos much more relaxing. Took 4 videos as well. February was black history month, and BBN just played the story of George Washington Carver. One of the things Dr. Carver invented was a quinine substitute for malaria, made from the peanut. I love the story of George Washington Carver. He would just pray to God and listen for God’s answer. He did everything God told him to do, even if it seemed strange to Him. He called his lab, “God’s Little Workshop.” Probably no other man’s work was blessed, in regard to experiments and discoveries in botany, as George Washington Carver’s work was. He had a very simple faith in God, that God would speak to him and answer his prayers and guide every step of his work. He considered his work a missionary work for God, even though he did not go very many places outside his little laboratory. February 28th. The day before Leap Day! Tuesday was a lovely day, and I was able to go out and take some photos of the daffodils. They are almost done now. Now the grape hyacinth is starting to bloom. Thank you for stopping by and reading. Have a sunshiney day! "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)_ |
Sour Sammy
Sour Sammy could not be good, no matter how he tried. One day his father had to discipline him for doing wrong, He asked his father why he could not be good, so his father got down the Bible and showed Sour Sammy how only Jesus could make him good. "Soon it was known all over town That Sour Sam had lost his frown -- Jesus had turned it upside down." Mom's e-book for children can be purchased by clicking on the "Buy Now" button below.
