Please be in prayer for my cousin's wife, Linda Young, as she goes for her second lung cancer surgery tomorrow.  After she recovers from this surgery she faces more chemo.  Here is a link to her CaringBridge site if you would like more information or if you would like to let her know you are praying for her.  Thank's so much.

Adventures, Blessings, Sunshine, and Frost

Hey y'all!  Thanks for stopping by!  This will be somewhat of a miscellaneous post.  Since the end of September, there has been a lot going on.

A couple of weeks ago, on the way to Charlotte, we noticed what looked like a bad accident on the other side of the highway.  Traffic going the other way was backed up for a long time.  Later we found out a semi truck had rear ended another semi.  The one that rear ended the other exploded and burned down to only the frame.  This was very sad because the driver had no chance to get out and perished in the fire.  What a startling reminder that we never know long we have to live.  "Ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." (James 4:14)  We must be ready at all times to meet God because we never know when it will be time to meet Him.

On the way home from Charlotte, traffic was still quite backed up, so Christina decided to go through Gastonia.  Traffic was quite heavy there too though.

Not to worry.  Allison and her mom decided to pass the time with a little friendly rough housing.  Let's see.  The insoles of Allison's new shoes will work quite well.  Just click on the little white rectangle below to see a video clip of the fun.

The fall weather so far has been absolutely beautiful.  The day time temperatures have mostly been in the 60s or 70s with a gentle breeze.  This has made for a bad case of fall fever, which is almost as troublesome as spring fever.  :-)  Only thing is that the bugs seem to like the fall weather too.  Flies and mosquitoes both seem to be quite active, trying to get in their last meals before the cold weather begins.  We got some fly paper to try to get rid of the flies, but they did not seem to be interested in it.  However, there are these wonderful little creatures called spiders.  The jumping spiders that seem to get into our house quite often are harmless, and they certainly did a lot better job of getting rid of the flies than the fly paper.

I don't know what kind of mosquitoes we have around here, but I seem to be allergic to some of them.  Most of the ones that bite are not a problem, but there is a kind that does cause a problem.  It is only a little mosquito, but it has a big bite, and both Christy and I get big, red, itchy welts with these.  We have killed several of these lately.

One really big blessing is the new shoes that the Lord has provided for me.  It is hard for both Christy and me to find shoes.  I think they make them narrower each year. :-)  Anyway, I tried some from two other stores before checking at KMart.  KMart had some of their tennis shoes on sale for 50% off, including these comfortable Everlast shoes.  They are nice and breathable and seem have plenty of room if I need to wear an elastic bandage or my supportive boot.  They also don't seem to have any "lumps" that make the bottom of my feet hurt when I walk.  Thank You, Lord!

On the morning of October the second, we had our first frost, just a very light one.  There has been no more frost since then until this morning.  When I looked outside, it was so beautiful that I just could not resist going out and taking some pictures.  The frost sparkled in the sunlight as if God had sprinkled jewels all over the lawn and porch.  Job 37:10 says, "By the breath of God frost is given."  Thank You, God for breathing such beauty!

How do you like this cutey?  I took a picture of her at the county fair this week.  This week has been full of adventures.  I don’t remember much about Monday, but every other day has been quite a day.

Tuesday – I did the cooking for Wednesday and Thursday.  While I was eating lunch, the fake tooth in the front broke, so I made an unexpected appointment for the dentist Wednesday morning.  I don’t chew with that tooth anyway, but the bonding material where the tooth broke off was rather uneven and a bit sharp.  I wanted to put off the teeth cleaning appointment until next month so I could go after being released from Dr. Schulman but ended up getting it done on Wednesday.  If I had just gotten the tooth fixed, they would have had to charge a “limited exam fee.”  However, if I got my teeth cleaned, they could just put down that they fixed this tooth while I was in there.  They said we could pay for it in November since that is when we had wanted to make the appointment originally.  However, we decided to go ahead and pay so that we wouldn’t have to worry about another bill in November.

Wednesday – So Wednesday morning started out with a quick run to the dentist.  Then we headed to the county fair only to find out that the fair didn’t open until 3:00 p.m.  So we went to a couple of stores and then to the garage to get car fixed so that it would pass inspection.  After this we came home for a little bit to rest and to get things together for the afternoon and evening.  Then we headed to the fair again.  A couple of hours later we headed to church.

At the fair we had a good time watching a man milk a goat and then going to see the horses and chickens.  We also looked at a number of the other exhibits.  None of my photos won anything, but Christy’s cross stitch pillow won first place.  We got to the milking barn, but it was already time to go to church, so we had to leave.  My feet were about to give out anyway.

For supper I had an Italian sausage, and Christy had chicken nuggets.  We stopped by the mall on the way to church, and Christy got a milkshake with her Chik-Fil-A gift card.  Then we went to Wendys where I got a chocolate frosty to top off my dinner.  It was so nice to go to church together rather than me finding a ride and meeting Christy there.  Such a blessing!

Thursday – On Thursday we left around 10:45 a.m. to go to the Workman’s house.  We had an hour or two before we had to leave for Allison’s PT appointment, so Allison got out the “steering wheel,” and she and I played the Wii, car racing.  It was really fun, but my car didn’t seem to stay on the road.  It is a good thing that crashing your car and burning your tires don’t cause any danger on a computer game. :-)  On the last race, I finally came in first.

There was about an hour and a half to kill at the PT appointment, so I thought I’d do some computer work.  However, what needed to be done was on the internet, and the wireless network there was a secured network. After a while we headed to Charlotte for the chiropractor appointments.  After these we went back into Pineville to go to Earth Fare.  Then it was back to the Workman’s house to meet up with Christy.  On the way home we stopped at CVS and also stopped to get gas.  Got home about 9:20 p.m.

Friday -- While Christy did dishes, I got some things together, and then we headed over to see Aunt Ellen.  We sat and chatted for a while, and then we came back so Christy could get ready to go to work.  I got started on the cooking for today, Saturday, and Sunday.

Saturday – Saturday was cleaning/work day at church, but I wasn’t feeling well so Christy headed off there alone.  Later in the afternoon, we went to get the front brakes fixed on the car as they were needing to be repaired as soon as possible.  One of the guys took us and dropped us off at the fair so we could look around there while they worked on the car.

First we made a stop at the milking barn.  Nobody in line, but we didn’t want to carry milk around for 2 ½ hours, so we went to the petting zoo.  Lots of fun there.  Saw all kinds of creatures – some friendly and sweet, some ornery, some cute.

Then we went to see the ducks and the rabbits and the pigs.  I thought it was funny to see the one yellow duck in the middle of the other ducks.

After this we headed up to see the prizes being given out for the best cattle.  This was nice because there was a place to sit down, and it was in a sheltered place.  Though it is October, the sun was quite warm.  Got lots of good vitamin D!

A young boy won first place for his heifer and also for showmanship.  A few others won first place for their heifers for various reasons.

Next we went to the exhibit hall.  We wanted to see the “living statue,” but he was not there so we went on to other exhibits.  I really enjoyed the drawings and the paintings.  There were some really good ones, even in the children’s divisions.

Next we went down to the other exhibit hall and talked to some friends for a while.  Then the phone rang to let us know the people at the garage were ready to come get us.  Ooops!  We had not gone down to the milking barn yet.  First they said to meet them at the front gate, so we walked up there.  Walking up hill, even a slight slope, is still quite a task for me; so it took a while to get there.  Then they called again and said that road was too busy so they would meet us at the other gate.  So we walked all the way down to the other end of the fair.  At least it was downhill.  Christy quickly went down to the milking barn to see if she could milk the cow and get her milk before the guy got there to pick us up.  But the line was too long.  Oh well.  Maybe next year.

Off we headed toward home.  Going to the fair just doesn’t seem complete without cotton candy, but the cheapest cotton candy at the fair was $3.00.  So we stopped at Ingles where we got it for $1.00 a bucket.  Mmmmm!  Mmmmm!

I’ve put a photo gallery below with pictures of some of the animals we saw at the fair and also the old State Highway Patrol vehicles.

Once we got home, Christy got busy right away, and I went and showered and washed my hair.  As soon as I was done, my cousin called.  So we went out again and over to see my cousin and her family and the new baby.

Sunday – Sunday was a really nice day. In the morning I wasn’t feeling well again, hot and uncomfortable and just feeling like bed would be a better place to be.  But it was a spiritually refreshing day, and I felt better by evening.

One of the blessings of Sunday was observing the Lord’s Supper.  That is a sweet time of fellowship with the Lord and with other brothers and sisters in Christ.

Today – Crash!  Or ah, I mean rest.  Looks like this week will be a little bit more “normal.”

“28Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:28-31)

    Sour Sammy

Sour Sammy could not be good, no matter how he tried.  One day his father had to discipline him for doing wrong,  He asked his father why he could not be good, so his father got down the Bible and showed Sour Sammy how only Jesus could make him good.
"Soon it was known all over town
That Sour Sam had lost his frown --
Jesus had turned it upside down."
