It is so fascinating and humbling to observe the beautiful heavens God made. Through the heavens God speaks to us. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.” (Psalm 19:1,2)
What do the heavens tell us about God?
They declare His ________________________ .
They show us His ____________________________ .
They show us ______________________________ .
The Psalmist wanted the words of his mouth to be acceptable in God’s sight. Our words can be acceptable in God’s sight as well. How can we learn to speak words that are acceptable to God?
Answer: We must fill our ___________________ with things that are acceptable to God and we must _______________________ on these things.
We meditate on the things God teaches us and we learn these things by looking at what God wants us to look at. The first thing God wants us to look at in Psalm 19 is the ______________________________ .
The heavens show the works of God’s fingers, those works which are beautifully and masterfully created. When the Psalmist looked at the heavens he saw that God was very _______________ and he (the Psalmist) was very ____________________ .
The Psalmist was overwhelmed by the power and greatness of God and by how much God loved him and how He visited (took time to care for) him in his need. Thinking on God’s work in the heavens made him ___________________ and __________________________ and very ______________________ .
God is all-powerful. Yet, He loves us, and He remembers us. We are the crowning work of His creation. Our response to Him should be one of awe, humility, and joy.
Remember our key verse, Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
If we know how great God is and how small we are; if our heart is filled with awe, humility, gratefulness, and joy, how will this affect our speech? Will it cause our mouth to speak words that reflect the Savior? Will it make our mouths speak words that are courteous, thankworthy and acceptable?”
Personal words diary
This week think about the words that you spoke. Did they reflect the things you learned about God? Were they acceptable to Him?
Write down a time that you should have spoken right words but you failed to do so?
Why did this happen? Were you thinking about God and His greatness and love at the time that you spoke? Or were you thinking about yourself, what was best for you and what you would like the most? or perhaps how you were hurt and wanted to get back at the other person? Were these right words? Did they edify? Did they minister grace to the hearers?
Think about what happened.
Did you miss the temptation – that is, did you not recognize it before you yielded to it.
Or did you recognize it and yield anyway?
What can you do better next time?
How can you be more aware of the temptation when it comes?
How can you use what you have learned about God to overcome the temptation when you are aware of it?

Write down a time that you were tempted to speak the wrong words but God gave you the victory over that temptation?
What was the situation?
How did you recognize the temptation?
How did you use what you had learned about God, the right things that you had allowed Him to use to fill your mind, and to help you overcome this temptation and speak right words?
How did your words edify someone else?
How did they minister grace to them?
