Did you ever have a mouse in your house?  We have a mouse in our house right now.  The only problem is that the mouse is dead and we have not yet been able to locate it.  So, as you can imagine, the house smells very interesting.

What to do about it?  Well, I’ve tried a few things.  First I put some sweet smelling lotion from Bath and Body Works on the return air ducts and two vents.  Then I put drops of lavender oil, gardenia oil, and clove oil on the main return air duct and the kitchen vent and lavender oil on the living room vent.  Next I lit three fall scented candles.  This has helped a little, but I do hope the smell dies down soon! :-)

Newest Craft Project

This brown hat and scarf set are my most recently finished craft project.  They were made using the same stitch that is used in the Forever 21 scarf pattern, found here at FaveCrafts.  Now I'm working on a baby blanket, using the same stitch.  It is a simple stitch and makes a neat pattern.  What would you like to make with that stitch?

By the way, the hat and scarf set are available over on our craft website.  Why not drop by and take a look?

Yellow Jacket for Dinner Anyone?

Earlier today a yellow jacket flew in the open front door.  Our capable bug catcher made short work of it.  This spider is called a jumping spider (shown here a little less than twice its true size).  It makes no web, is pretty much harmless, and does an excellent job of getting rid of flies and other unwanted insects. (Now, if we could only convince it to catch mosquitoes! :-) )  You can see in the picture how it skillfully keeps the stinger part of the yellow jacket away from it.

Here is my latest crochet project.  I used a pattern from FaveCrafts, a site with lots of great craft ideas.  However, I'm not very good at reading patterns so ended up taking it out and redoing it three times.  Also had to adjust the pattern a little because I tend to make tight stitches.  The finished hat is newborn size and only takes about 2 or 3 ounces of yarn.  That means it is possible to make several hats from one skein of yarn.  Even though it had to be redone several times, the finished project came out pretty good, and it's cute!  Want one?  It's available on our store page on our Joyful Hearts Variety website.  Hop on over and order one!

Crazy, Fun, and Wonderful

We’ve had a couple of crazy weeks, but also fun weeks and wonderful.

One of the highlights of this month was the Female’s Fall Frolic for Fun.  During this time, ladies form the church get together and we go on a trip up to Hendersonville to an orchard to get apples.  They are very delicious, fresh apples.

There were also lots of pumpkins, rows of pumpkins.  There was a llama too, and some fun places to get our pictures taken.  We used to be able to pet the llama, but they were told they would have to get a special permit in order to allow people to pet it; so they put up a fence between it and the people who came to see it.  One can still buy food and feed the llama by letting the food slide down a special tray that goes to the inside of the fence where the llama is.

After that we went to A Day in the Country.  That is a very fascinating store with all kinds of things to see, and to leave there.  There is an “attic sale” section where there is merchandise more in our price range.  We did not get any though.  However, we did enjoy their coffee and apple cider samples. :-)

For lunch we all stopped at Chik-fil-A.  We kept them busy with over 20 orders to make at once! :-)  The food was very good – I had a grilled chicken salad.

Another fun thing we did was to enter things into the fair.  I had eight entries and Christy had four.  For these we each got a ticket to get into the fair free one day.  We’ll probably go next Saturday so that we can get the most out of our ticket. :-)  Here is a picture of the things we made.

This week was missions conference.  I didn’t get any pictures, but it was a great time.  The theme was “Shining in a Pagan Culture,” and the special speaker was Bro. Andy Bonikowsky, missionary to Spain.  The messages were on Daniel and were really good.  They are available for download from the sermon archives on our church’s website.  It was a wonderful week of encouragement and fellowship and learning from God’s word.

The theme verses for the missions conference were Daniel’s prayer in Daniel 2:20-23, “20Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: 21And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:  22He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. 23I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.”

    Sour Sammy

Sour Sammy could not be good, no matter how he tried.  One day his father had to discipline him for doing wrong,  He asked his father why he could not be good, so his father got down the Bible and showed Sour Sammy how only Jesus could make him good.
"Soon it was known all over town
That Sour Sam had lost his frown --
Jesus had turned it upside down."
