Here are the some of the fun projects I got to finish this past week, except for the t-shirt dress, which was finished today. Christy and I made the patriotic clothespin magnets together.

We had another visitor today – not a sparrow this time, but a five-lined skink. I have seen a few of these in the flower garden area in front of the house. This is the first we’ve known them to come in, however. Not sure what it was after. They do pray on insects and spiders, and we have had lots of flies and a good number of spiders as well; so perhaps it was looking for dinner. Though it was fairly big, the skink was still dark and still had a little blue on its tail, indicating that it was a young lizard. Must be lots for it to eat this year. :-) This is a jumping spider. They do a lot better eliminating flies than fly paper. Not as messy either. They are not very aggressive and do not build webs. This one is quite big. Not surprising as we have lots of flies this year. Proverbs chapter 30 describes the spider as one of the four little things in the earth that are exceeding wise. Our days have been very busy and exciting. Here is a glimpse into just one of those days - Thursday, April the 5th. Thursday was the most eventful day of the whole week. First, I transplanted the marigolds, then made some rows in the garden. Then it was time to cook potatoes. I made baked potato “fries,” and also baked chicken and made crackers. After the potatoes were in the oven, I walked up to the Millers to take Olivia a little bit of stuff for Jessica to sell at the yard sale. In the afternoon, I started on a hat. It was to be all white, made with some nice, soft yarn we had gotten at WalMart. The brim has a shell ruffle on it. It was exciting to watch the hat take shape. The Lord helped, and it came out just right. I crocheted a white flower to go on it and finished it off with a pearly white bead in the center of the flower. Around 2:30 it was time to start the chicken. Also made some crackers and a flavorful topping for Christy’s potatoes. She needs something as she is not much of a potato fan. :-) I tried to go out and pick some onions and kale to cook for the veggie. Well, I got the onions picked, but picking the kale did not turn out so well. While, I was out there getting the onions, I saw a bright light. This was followed several seconds later by rolling thunder. So, it seemed best to leave the kale be and save picking it for another day. While I was working in the kitchen, I considered waiting until later to make the cookies, which ended up being crackers instead. Ooops! But, while I was standing in front of the fridge, there was a very close lightning that sounded like something between a “crack” and a “sizzle.” I thought I even saw a spark over toward the sink area somewhere. Everything electric seemed to go “sizzle/zap.” So I decided to finish all the baking right away, just in case the power went out later. Thankfully it did not, but it was better to be prepared. Also made some tofu/cherry/banana pudding for me. After that I decided to get my bag that I take everywhere with me (making sure my Bible was in it) and my Sunday bag and pack the computer in the Sunday bag. That way, if the house got zapped with lightning and caught on fire, I could grab those on my way out the door. !!! :-) There was a severe thunderstorm with tornado warning in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. On the radar it looked like it was headed this way; but the Lord sent it slightly south of us and broke it up. Thank You, Father! Though there was a lot of strong wind and some thunder and lightning, it was not that bad. Whew! Finally it was time to rest. I sat down, propped my feet up, and took up the crocheting! Suddenly, the sun came out. If it gets brighter, there should be a rainbow, I thought. So I opened the front door, and sure enough, there it was in the eastern sky. It grew brighter and brighter, and I was able to get several pictures. After that it was time to rest again until Christy got home. During that time, I was able to finish the hat. Then Christy came, and we had fun unpacking the bags of things the Workmans had gotten for us at Earth Fare. They were even able to get the free item of the week – Babybel cheese. These are little round cheddar cheeses with a red rind that has to be peeled off before eating them. Mmmmm! What a yummy bed time treat! Whew! What a day! But, all in all, it was a fun one. J Well, that pretty much tells the most exciting news. I hope that you all are having a great week. |
