One of Those Days
Hello all. Greetings on this next to last day of May. This is Connie. I thought I would share a special blessing that God gave my sister and me on Monday.
The Bible says, “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” (See Philippians 4:4) Some days this is easier than others. And some days God gives us something really special to rejoice in. Some of those special things are surprises.
Monday morning I showered and washed my hair and did some intense, though not too profitable, research via computer. After finishing it up and organizing the information that was helpful, I went to the kitchen and started cooking. Rrrrrrring! Rrrrrrrrrring! To answer or not to answer? That was the question. I decided not to answer since I had just started working in the kitchen and was behind schedule already. No one left a message, but the phone rang again immediately, so I picked it up.
Then I heard my sister's voice, “Do you want to go to Gastonia today? I just found out we were supposed to be closed today?”
So I hurried and finished making the pumpkin bread and also cooked some rice and cleaned up, etc. We packed some food (lunch for me and a dish of fresh fruit for each of us), and Christy ate lunch while I cleaned up.
Then off we went to shop. We left behind a refrigerator with puddles of water (It has two containers to catch drips, but we haven’t figured out where the new leaks are yet); uncooked meals; unwashed dishes; a weedy flower bed and rose bushes that need attention; and various other things.
As we shopped, we felt no hurry. It was a leisurely shopping trip. Briefly I reviewed all the things we left behind and decided they didn’t matter for the day. It was a wonderful day, a day of rest. Bed Bath and Beyond had a demo massage chair with an arm cover that said “Try Me.” I didn’t need a second invitation. Sat down and turned it on “full back.” Ahhhhhhh! That felt good. As we went here and there, I thought about how wonderful it seemed to just do nothing. The thought came, “This is one of those days that you can just relax and not think about any problems and just think about the Lord. Thank You, God.” And I thanked Him over and over. It was one of those days, one of those surprise days. It was such a gift from God to give Christy this day of rest as there have been many overtime days for her lately. It was so nice to go out together.
I didn’t take my camera because it was raining, but I was soon wishing it was along. The clouds made such lovely patterns in the sky and were constantly changing. The sun shone for a while; then it rained; then the sun shone again; then it rained. And so the pattern went for the afternoon.
God topped it all off on the way home with beauty that cannot be described in words. The clouds were absolutely amazing. There were thunderheads lined up all along the western horizon. Other types of clouds streaked horizontally across the sky in front of the thunderheads as if they had been painted there. The scene reminded me of one of those light-up pictures. You hang them on the wall and turn them on, and the light seems to reveal a whole new scene. The sun was low in the sky and was reflecting off the tops of the clouds. Even with sunglasses on it was very bright. The sun brightened up the edges of the thunderheads and its rays streamed through the other clouds. This made the clouds stand out from the blue sky as if they were some kind of lighted up sculpture. Thank You, God, for this is indeed beauty beyond words.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.” (Psalm 19:1-6)
Perhaps those beautiful, bright, shiny clouds are the “tabernacle” for the sun that the Psalmist is referring to in these verses. It did seem like the sun was going home to bed for the night, and its going was all in splendor and glory. It was certainly demonstrating the glory of God. I don’t understand how anybody can look at that and say it just happened. “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.” (Psalm 150:1,2) Yes, praise the Lord!
Once again, God bless you all. Perhaps He will even surprise you soon with “one of those days.” If He does, don’t forget to thank Him. Have a wonderful day!
