Happy New Year!
This is the day that many make New Year’s resolutions. Everyone wants their New Year to be better than the last one. I generally do not make New Year’s resolutions. It is hard to keep them; and, when I fail, I feel as if I had broken a promise and not only disappointed myself or others, but also made God sad.
However, I came across an idea that I really liked. This idea was on a youtube video by a young boy named Robby, though more commonly known as Kid President . Kid President has a painful disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), or Brittle Bone Disease. He has had many breaks and surgeries and is often in a lot of pain. But he does not let his condition get him down. With the help of his brother-in-law, he has set his focus on uplifting and encouraging others, rather than dwelling on his own problems. He had a neat idea for a New Year’s Resolution. Here is his youtube video explaining his idea (I skip the dancing part at the end).
I am still not sure I will call this a resolution, but it is something I am asking the Lord to help me do in 2014. The idea not only sounds good, but it is also Biblical. Philippians 2:3,4 says, “3Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”
To implement this idea, I have picked three people that could use some special encouragement and have asked the Lord to show me how I can uplift those people and help make their year an awesome one.
How about it, friend? Who will you pick for your Awesome Year Project? As you strive to make someone else’s year awesome, watch how God will make yours awesome too.
