Suddenly I noticed a car parked between our house and our neighbor’s house. As I watched, I saw two ladies dressed in black get out of that car and head for the neighbor’s house. My heart sank. I was definitely not prepared to give them a reason of the hope that was within me. Thank the Lord for allowing me to see them ahead of time so that there were at least a few minutes to deal with some heart issues. God is gracious.
Please pray for these two ladies, Cleo and Janet. They are in need of Jesus, the true Jehovah. They were very gracious ladies who listened when we spoke and actually turned to and read the Scriptures that we brought up. Janet was the one in training. I felt sorry for her. She seemed to know more Scripture references than her superior and also seemed quite familiar with the language of the King James Bible. How did she get led astray?
Cleo was very well trained. She was very gracious and kind and not pushy. She seemed to really believe what she was saying. She also used the New Testament when she was explaining her position. I think this is the first time that we have had JWs visit our house that they have not tried to explain their position out of the Old Testament.
One of the men in our church recently taught on how to witness to a JW. Thank God for that teaching. Most of the verses he suggested were not helpful as these two ladies did not get into the usual subjects at all. But the techniques and the advice were so useful. I did as this man suggested and asked these people to give me a testimony of their salvation. They could not. Also, this man strongly urged us to avoid subjects that could just cause controversy and argument. The point is that they need to get saved, not that I need to prove that I am right. This was great advice. Using this tactic caused these ladies to be willing to listen and to think about what we said.
It was obvious that the word of God had made an impact on Cleo’s heart. She wants to come back. I told her she could come on one condition - she would be willing to listen to what the Bible has to say and that we would use only the Bible, no other books or literature. She agreed. Thank the Lord! Please pray that we will be ready when she comes back. And thank the Lord that Christy was behind me praying for me while I was talking to these ladies.
Precautions when witnessing to JWs (some of these were shared with us by a friend)
Yes, all men (and women and children) need the Lord. But there are many precautions to think of when dealing with teachers of false doctrines. Here are a few.
1. Do not let these people in your house.
We did not let these ladies in our house but talked with them on the front porch because the Scripture says, “If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” (II John 1:10,11)
2. Do not wish them well or tell them to have a good day
See above Scripture
3. Some of the JWs are now using the King James Bible and the New Testament to present their positions.
4. Some of the JWs are also now avoiding bringing up the subjects of the deity of Christ and the reality of hell, at least when they come the first time.
5. The JW's are trained very well to defend their unscriptural positions. They will be very nice, while at the same time promoting lots of errors by twisting the scriptures. It can be dangerous for your spiritual growth if you are not very, very careful.
6. These people need the gospel, and someone has to show them the truth from the Bible, but at the same time, be careful, because they can possibly lead someone else into error, even a person who is saved. (as perhaps happened in the case of Janet)
Our friend closed her email to us with this encouragement - I will pray that God will give you both wisdom in this matter, and that God will shield your hearts from anything that could cause any type of problems for you.
